What are the benefits?

Excuse my ignorance if any. I am researching the benefits of upgrading our fire department from light rescue to medium. We have most of the gear needed to complete this but what is the benefit of upgrading the certification? I have tried to research this but no luck. In general what is the benefit of having a rescue certification anyways versus having the equipment to handle basic extrication? Any input is welcomed!
